HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception, the patient will undergo a clinical interview to confirm their data and exam preparations. Then, the patient will be sent to the preparation room, where blood glucose will be measured. If the blood glucose result is within the limits allowed for the test, a vein in an upper limb will be punctured and maintained with saline.

The patient should remain at rest in a darkened room for 15 to 20 minutes. During this period, a dose of the radioactive tracer will be administered through the venous access and the patient should remain at rest for another 30 to 60 minutes. Then, the patient will be sent to the exam room. During the entire image acquisition, the patient must remain motionless, lying on the device’s gurney, without moving their head.

The average time for image acquisition is 10 to 15 minutes.

At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged without any restrictions.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Patients who use insulin should consult the clinic’s doctors to receive more specific guidance on their preparation.

It is important to bring any previous brain exams, such as CT scan and MRI, in addition to the exam request.

This test is not recommended for pregnant patients.

If the patient is breastfeeding, it is recommended to suspend breastfeeding for 24 hours after the exam.
