HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief interview to check their data and exam preparation. Then, they will be sent to the preparation room, where blood glucose will be measured. If the blood glucose result is within the limits allowed for the test, a vein in the upper limb will be punctured and maintained with saline.

One dose of the radioactive tracer will be administered through the venous access and the patient should remain at rest for approximately 1 hour.

After resting, the patient will be sent to the examination room. During the entire time of the test, the patient must remain motionless, lying on the device’s gurney.

The examination will begin with computed tomography, a phase of rapid duration, and radiological iodinated contrast may or may not be used.

The average time of this exam is 20 to 30 minutes, and eventually additional late imaging may be required to complement the exam.

The total examination time varies from patient to patient and depends on several factors, from the patient’s height, clinical conditions, dose injected and type of tumor. Therefore, be patient, as we will be carrying out the most appropriate acquisition protocol for each situation.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The suspension of carbohydrates 12 hours before the exam and fasting (except for water) are extremely important to avoid the need for patient recall. Stay tuned.

This test cannot be performed on pregnant women or those suspected of pregnancy.

Patients who are breastfeeding should suspend breastfeeding for 24 hours after the procedure.
