HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to confirm their data and exam preparation.

Then, they will be sent to the preparation room, where capillary glucose will be measured. If the blood glucose result is within the limits allowed for the test, a vein will be punctured and maintained with saline.

A dose of the radiotracer will be injected through the venous access and the patient should remain at rest for approximately 1 hour.

Then, the patient will be sent to the exam room. During the entire time of the test, the patient must remain motionless, lying on the stretcher of the device.

The exam will begin with a CT scan of the chest, a phase of rapid duration. Subsequently, the acquisition of PET begins, which lasts around 10 to 15 minutes.

Then, the acquisition from the head to the root of the thighs will be carried out. This stage lasts 20 to 30 minutes.

In cases of investigation of sarcoidosis, this test should be analyzed in conjunction with myocardial perfusion scintigraphy at rest. If there is no such exam, the patient may possibly be asked to come another day to perform it.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

The ZERO CARBOHYDRATE diet is extremely important for the exam to be carried out within the ideal protocols, thus avoiding the need for patient recall.

This test is not recommended for women who are pregnant, suspected to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
