Hospitalization

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:        

  • Absolute fasting for 6 hours;
  • Go to the clinic on the scheduled date and time before going to the hospital;
  • Ensure that the diet has been carried out properly;
  • Bring personal belongings (towels, toothbrush, shampoo, etc.);
  • Bed linens will be provided by the hospital;
  • Bring pajamas, nightgowns or light clothes;
  • The room is equipped with a television and air-conditioning;
  • It is allowed to bring fruits, cookies, juices and other foods (as long as they are not within the list of prohibited foods) and also electronic equipment for personal use, such as cell phones, notebooks, etc.;
  • Bring the medications you already take daily for high blood pressure, diabetes, calcium, etc. and use it in the hospital;
  • Hospital visits are prohibited;
  • Patients with special care must be hospitalized with a companion (check with the attendant about the consent form);
  • Children and the elderly must be hospitalized with companions;
  • The nurse, as well as the nuclear medicine physician, will enter the room as little as possible, only when necessary (radioprotection measures). Therefore, ask any questions before hospitalization.
  • The radiation exposure rate will be monitored periodically until the levels determined by the National Nuclear Energy Commission(CNEN) for hospital discharge are reached;
  • The use of lemon juice to stimulate salivation (in cases of therapeutic dose with iodine 131) should only be done if the patient presents symptoms of sialoadenitis (pain and swelling at the site of the cheeks and below the jaw). If the patient does not have these symptoms, this procedure should not be performed;
  • Abundant fresh water hydration during hospitalization is recommended.
