PREPARATION:
HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?
After filling out the registration form, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and exam preparation. Then they will be sent to the injection room. A peripheral vein, preferably from the forearm, will be punctured and a small amount of radioactive material (tracer) will be administered.
Laxatives will be prescribed to prevent the material from being retained in intestinal loops.
The patient will be instructed to return to the clinic between 48 and 72 hours after administration of the tracer.
Upon returning, the patient will be sent to the examination room, where they will be positioned on the device’s gurney and must remain lying down for approximately 40 to 60 minutes for image acquisition.
In some cases, when the material has not been properly cleared from the blood pool, the patient will be asked to return on another day for the acquisition of complementary images, remembering that this does not require any additional administration of the radioactive material.
Note: We ask you to inform the nuclear medicine physician if you have a chemotherapy or radiotherapy appointment between 24 and 48 hours before and/or after the administration of the tracer.
