Preparation Guidelines

Protein Losing Enteropathy Study (Protein Loss Scintigraphy)

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:

  • No specific preparation.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Do not forget to bring previous exams related to the disease.

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and exam preparation, after which they will be sent to the exam room. Then, the patient will be positioned on the device’s gurney and a peripheral vein, preferably in the forearm, will be punctured for the administration of the radioactive drug. The patient should remain lying on the stretcher of the device for about 1 hour, as sequential images will be acquired during this interval.

At the end of this first stage, the patient will be temporarily discharged and instructed to return at sequential intervals until we detect the place where there is protein loss through the intestine. This can take all day and even in some cases imaging during the following day will be required. Therefore, set aside the entire day for the exam.

At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged without any restrictions.
