Preparation Guidelines

Meckel’s Diverticulum Study (Ectopic gastric mucosa study)

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:

  • Fasting for 4 to 6 hours. Newborns may have their fasting reduced to 2 hours.

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and preparation and then be sent to the exam room.

In the exam room, the patient will be positioned on the device’s gurney and must remain lying down for approximately 40 minutes.

A peripheral vein, preferably in the forearm, will be punctured for injection of a small amount of radioactive material.

Several sequential images will be acquired immediately after injection.

At the end of the acquisition, the patient will be instructed to go to the bathroom and empty their bladder, then return to acquire another image after urination.

Restraining the child on the stretcher of the device (by means of bands or velcro) is necessary to prevent movement from interfering with the image acquisition, thus avoiding the need to recall the patient.

At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged without any restrictions.
