Active Bleeding Scan (Active Hemorrhages)

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION           

  • There is no specific preparation.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Bring related tests, such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, and blood tests.
  • In general, this test should be performed in the presence of visible intestinal bleeding during the exam period.

 

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and then be sent to the exam room and positioned on the gurney of the device. A vein in the forearm will be punctured and maintained with saline. A small amount of the radioactive material will be injected by this route and the patient must remain lying down for 45 minutes. Several images will be acquired during this interval. Every 15 minutes a new dose of the tracer will be injected into the saline solution.

At the end of this stage, the patient will be instructed to leave the examination room and empty their bladder, returning for the last image acquisition after urination.

At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged for routine activities, without any restrictions.
