Myocardial Necrosis Scan

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:         

  • Normal diet.
  • There is no specific preparation.
  • The ideal time interval for performing this exam is 72 hours after the episode of chest pain.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

 

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and the exam request. Then, they will be sent to the injection room, where a peripheral vein, preferably in the forearm, will be punctured. A small amount of radioactive material will be injected into this vein.

The patient must wait about 3 to 4 hours to be sent to the examination room.

In the exam room, the patient will be positioned on the device’s gurney and images will be acquired in various projections.

After the end of this step, another injection will be administered into the patient’s vein and new images will be acquired in the same position as the first images.

Duration of the exam: approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour.

The nuclear medicine physician will contact the referring physician to pass on the result.
