Breast Scintigraphy

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:

  • Fasting is not necessary.
  • There is no specific preparation.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Scintigraphy should be performed at least 2 weeks after fine-needle biopsy and 4 to 6 weeks after excisional core biopsy.
  • Bring imaging tests on the day of the exam (such as mammography, breast ultrasound or breast resonance).

 

HOW IS THE EXAM DONE?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data. Then, they will be sent to the injection room where a small amount of the radioactive material will be injected into a vein, preferably one in the forearm.

The patient must wait about 10 minutes to be sent to the examination room.

In the exam room, the patient will be positioned on a specific mattress and must lie face down on this mattress. Images will be acquired in various projections.

Duration of the exam: approximately 1 hour.

At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged without any restrictions.
