Whole Body Scan with MIBI (Tumor Viability with Sestamibi – 99mTc)

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:

  • Fasting is not necessary.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Do not forget to bring any prior imaging exams regarding the disease to be investigated.

 

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and will be sent to the injection room.

A vein, preferably in the forearm, will be punctured and a small amount of radioactive material (tracer) will be injected. The patient will be instructed to wait 10 minutes and then will be sent to the exam room. In the exam room, the patient will be positioned on the device’s gurney and must remain lying down for about 20 to 30 minutes for image acquisition.

Subsequently, they will be discharged and instructed to return 2 to 3 hours later for further image acquisition, as in the first stage.

At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged without any restrictions.
