Salivary Gland Scintigraphy

Preparation: 

• Fast for 2 hours.
• Do not brush your teeth or chew gum, or put anything in your mouth 2 hours before the exam.
• We ask that you bring 2 lemons or 500 ml of concentrated passion fruit juice.
• This test is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

How is the exam performed?
After filling out the registration form at the reception, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and preparation. Then, they will be sent to the exam room.In the examination room, the patient will be positioned on the device’s gurney and must remain lying motionless for 30 minutes, without moving their head.
After positioning, a peripheral vein will be punctured and a small amount of the radioactive material will be injected through this route.
Images will be acquired immediately after injection. At 15 minutes, lemon or passion fruit juice will be administered orally. The patient should not move their head at any time during image acquisition.
Lemon/passion fruit juice will be provided through a straw.
At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged without any restrictions.
