Gallium-67 Lung Scintigraphy

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:

  • It is not necessary to fast or suspend the medications in use.
  • Do not forget to bring any prior imaging tests related to the disease being investigated.
  • If the patient has undergone blood transfusion, intravenous iron or has undergone contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, the patient should wait at least 24 hours to perform Gallium-67 scintigraphy.
  • If you have undergone chemotherapy, wait from 3 to 4 weeks to schedule the exam.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After the registration form is filled out at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and exam preparations, then will be sent to the injection room where a vein, preferably from the forearm, will be punctured and a small amount of radioactive material (tracer) will be administered.

After the administration of the tracer, the patient will be discharged and instructed to return to the clinic from 48 to 72 hours later for image acquisition.

Upon returning, the patient will be sent to the examination room, where they will be positioned on the gurney of the device and must remain lying down for about 20 to 30 minutes for image acquisition.

At the end of the exam, the patient can return to his activities without restrictions.
