Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:

  • Fasting is not necessary.
  • The patient should withhold the use of Somatostatin (SANDOSTATIN) at least 1 day before the test. If you are using depot somatostatin (SANDOSTATIN LAR), the period of drug withdrawal should be from 4 to 6 weeks.
  • All medication should be withheld only after authorization from the referring physician.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Do not forget to bring any imaging tests related to the disease under investigation.

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and exam preparation and then be sent to the injection room. A small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein, preferably into one from the forearm.

The patient should wait from 4 to 6 hours after injection for image acquisition. It is not necessary for the patient to wait at the clinic during this period.

Upon returning, the patient will be sent to the examination room and will be instructed to lie down on the device’s gurney for about 30 to 40 minutes to obtain the images.

At the end of the acquisition, the patient will be discharged and instructed to return within 24 hours for a new image acquisition, like the first procedure. They will also be instructed to return to the use of Sandostatin, if previously prescribed.
