Preparation Guidelines

99mTc-Trodat Brain Scan

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION:

  • Fasting is not necessary;
  • Some medications should be withheld before the exam. Check the list with our attendants;
  • Always correctly inform the name of all medications you are using, and any others you have taken in the last week. No medication should be withheld without the consent of the referring physician;
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFORMED?

After completing the registration form at reception, the patient will undergo an interview with the physician and will then be instructed to wait approximately 1 hour. This time is necessary for the preparation of the medication (which cannot be prepared in advance due to its instability after the appointment).

Once the medication is ready, the patient will be taken to the injection room and a small amount of this material (radioactive) will be administered into their vein, preferably in the forearm. They will then be released and instructed to return to the clinic after 3 and a half to 4 hours. There are no restrictions during this time. We emphasize that it is extremely important to respect the return time. Delays may prevent image acquisition due to the instability of the radioactive material.

Upon returning, the patient will be taken to the examination room where they will be required to lie down on the equipment table for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Patients who cannot remain still during this period will not be able to undergo this exam.

Upon completion of the acquisition, the patient will be released without restrictions and may resume taking their daily medication.
