Gallium-67 Myocardial Scintigraphy

Patient Guidelines

PREPARATION

  • It is not necessary to fast or withhold prescribed medications.
  • If the patient has undergone blood transfusion, intravenous iron or has undergone contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, the patient should wait at least 24 hours to perform Gallium 67 scintigraphy.
  • If you have undergone chemotherapy, wait 3 to 4 weeks to schedule the exam.
  • This test is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Do not forget to bring any imaging tests related to the disease under investigation.

HOW IS THE EXAM PERFOMED?

After filling out the registration form at the reception desk, the patient will undergo a brief clinical interview to check their data and exam preparation, and then will be sent to the injection room. A vein, preferably in the forearm, will be punctured and a small amount of radioactive material (tracer) will be administered.

After tracer injection, the patient will be discharged and instructed to return to the clinic within 72 hours for image acquisition.

Upon returning, the patient will be positioned on the device’s gurney and should remain lying down for about 30 to 40 minutes. Images of the chest will be acquired in several projections.

At the end of the exam, the patient will be discharged without any restrictions.
